This month Red Bay Coffee Roasters launches our newest roast, Sweet Unity. Getting coffee from farm to cup is a complex process. Doing so while centering equity and sustainability is no easy feat. This is why we decided to partner with Sweet Unity Farms. Founded by David Robinson, the company aims to enhance the lives of rural coffee growers in Tanzania. As we continue to bring beautiful coffee to the people, we are happy to collaborate with a company that is as committed to the people as we are.
To mark this special occasion, we will welcome Robinson to Oakland for a unique experience. During this residency, we will bridge the gap between producer and roaster by providing training on the roasting process and delving into the ways growing practices impact the coffee that ends up in your cup. The training will be done in partnership with Mokhtar Alkhanshali who has worked with farmers in Yemen to create the much talked about Port of Mokha.
A Conversation with Keba Konte & David Robinson, Sweet Unity Farms, Tuesday, Sept 27th, 6pm
Closing out the residency, we will have a talk at Red Bay Coffee HQ in Oakland’s Fruitvale District, bringing coffee producers, roasters and connoisseurs together. Moderated by Faiza Farah of Third Space Media, the conversation will explore how growing up during the Civil Rights Movement as a son of Jackie and Rachel Robinson influenced David’s commitment to social justice, the importance of economic empowerment, and bringing beautiful coffee to the people in an equitable, sustainable way.
Join us for an enlightening conversation between two pioneers who work at the intersection of coffee, community, and culture - David Robinson, Sweet Unity Farms and Keba Konte, Red Bay Coffee. Tuesday, September 27, 2016, 6pm-8pm, Red Bay Coffee HQ Warehouse, 3098 E. 10th Street, Oakland. $5/Admission.
