Brewing Change: Our Congo Limited Release Supports Sickle Cell Aid and Research

At Red Bay Coffee, we believe that coffee is more than just a drink—it's not only a powerful connector, that can be a catalyst for change, and a way to make a meaningful impact. That’s why we are so thrilled to announce our first-ever limited release from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This is a coffee that embodies both exceptional quality and a deep commitment to supporting those in need.

A Coffee with a Cause

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a nation rich in culture and resources, but it has faced significant challenges over the years, from enduring conflict and exploitation to a fragile healthcare system. Despite these obstacles, the DRC is also home to some of the world’s most vibrant and unique coffees, grown by resilient farmers who continue to cultivate their land with care and dedication.

For this limited release, we’ve partnered with independent farmers associated with Café Kivu, an organization that provides vital logistical support to smallholder farmers who are not part of a cooperative. These farmers, located in the South Kivu region, produce a coffee that is truly special—one that reflects the rich flavors and resilience of the Congolese people.

Supporting Sickle Cell Aid and Research

This release is not just about bringing an incredible coffee to your cup; it’s about giving back to the communities that make it possible. 100% of the profits from this limited release will be donated to support Sickle Cell Aid and Research at Centre Hospitalier Anemique Ss Saint Crispin, a critical cause in a country where healthcare resources are often stretched thin.

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a genetic condition that disproportionately affects people in sub-Saharan Africa, including the Congo. The funds we raise will go directly toward improving care, research, and support for those living with SCD in the region. By choosing this coffee, you’re not just enjoying a delicious brew—you’re also helping to provide much-needed aid to those who need it most.

Overcoming Challenges to Make a Difference

We know that sending aid to the Congo is not easy. The country faces numerous barriers, including corruption, logistical challenges, and political instability, which often prevent resources from reaching their intended destinations. However, through our collaboration with Café Kivu and trusted partners on the ground, we’ve worked diligently to ensure that every dollar you contribute will go directly to those in need.

Our commitment to transparency and impact is unwavering, and we’re proud to play a small but meaningful role in supporting the people of the Congo.

The Bigger Picture: Why Congo?

The DRC’s struggles are deeply intertwined with global issues. Western nations have long benefited from the social and political destabilization in the Congo, particularly through the extraction of valuable minerals like coltan. The ongoing conflict, often referred to as the "Congo Wars," has led to widespread suffering, including the proliferation of diseases like monkeypox, as well as the displacement of millions of people.

This coffee release is our way of shining a light on these issues and hope that can help in contributing to future solutions. By bringing awareness to the challenges faced by the Congolese people and supporting their efforts to build a better future, we hope to inspire others to take action as well. This collaboration is just one step in a larger journey, and we hope to inspire more businesses to find ways to help.
